MLB: Chi. Cubs 3, Houston 2

HOUSTON, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Pinch-runner Charles Gipson was thrown out at the plate to end the game Thursday night as Houston was beaten by the Chicago Cubs, 3-2.

Derrek Lee hit his 46th home run, Matt Murton also homered and Nomar Garciaparra had three hits for the Cubs, who broke a two-game skid. Winner Glendon Rusch improved to 9-8.

Lance Berkman homered and Jeff Bagwell added an RBI for Houston, which still can clinch the final National League playoff berth on Friday. Losing pitcher Wandy Rodriguez dropped to 10-10.
