NEW YORK, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox would play at home against either the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Sox to determine a possible American League wild-card winner.

The White Sox won two coin flips conducted by Major League Baseball Wednesday.

Chicago has struggled in the second half of the season.

When the White Sox started play Wednesday night, their lead over Cleveland in the American League Central Division had shrunk to two games. They were tied with both the Red Sox and Yankees for the lead in the AL wild-card chase.

Any one-game tie-breakers would be scheduled for Oct. 3 at Chicago's U.S. Cellular Field.
