BALTIMORE, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez homered Wednesday night as the New York Yankees beat Baltimore, 2-1.

The home run was his 47th of the season and set a club record for homers by a right-handed hitter in a season. Also, it was the 400th round-tripper of his career. Joe DiMaggio hit 46 homers in 1937.

Winner Shawn Chacon rose to 7-3. Mariano Rivera registered his 43rd save.

Javy Lopez had two hits, including his 14th home run, and Chris Gomez also had two hits for the Orioles. Losing pitcher Daniel Cabrera dropped to 10-13.

The Yankees kept pace with Boston atop the American League East. The Red Sox beat Toronto Wednesday night.
