WACO, Texas, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- The 2006 recipient of the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award is former Baylor football coach Grant Teaff.

He will be presented with the award at a luncheon Jan. 10 during the 2006 American Football Coaches Association Convention in Dallas.

Teaff was Baylor's coach from 1972-92, guiding the Bears to two Southwest Conference titles and eight bowl appearances. He held similar posts at Angelo State University (1969-71) and McMurry College (1960-65), compiling an overall mark of 170-151-8 in 30 seasons. He is in the College Football Hall of Fame, and is enshrined in the Southwest Conference Hall of Honor and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Teaff was a six-time coach of the year in the Southwest Conference, and retired from coaching after the 1992 season.

"This is the highest of compliments because the Stagg Award is named after one of the greatest coaches and contributors in the history of our game," he said.
