Tkachuk fails physical and is suspended

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Blues have suspended Keith Tkachuk, after the veteran forward failed his physical.

No reason was given as to why Tkachuk, 33, failed the physical Friday, but it has been reported that he was above his normal playing weight. His weight was listed as 231 pounds in the Blues 2003-04 media guide.

"It is disappointing," said Blues Coach Mike Kitchen, "because we were looking for him to be our best player game in and game out. He has the potential to get 50 goals with his skill level, getting to the net, with his size, he's terrific."

Tkachuk, after 13 seasons in the NHL, has 431 goals with 401 assists in 856 games with the Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes and St. Louis Blues. His best year came during the 1995-96 campaign with Winnipeg, when he had 50 goals and 48 assists in 76 games. He had 52 goals the following season.
