MLB: Pittsburgh 4, Cincinnati 0

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Paul Maholm pitched eight shutout innings Saturday to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Maholm (2-0) gave up four hits and four walks while striking out eight. He also pitched eight shutout innings to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers on Aug. 30 to earn his first big-league victory.

It was the Pirates' 13th shutout of the season.

Freddy Sanchez and Jason Bay each homered for the Pirates, who won for just the third time in their last eight games.

Ryan Freel had three hits for the Reds, who lost for just the third time in eight games.
