COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Troy Smith scored two first-half touchdowns to spark 9th-ranked Ohio State to a 27-6 decision over San Diego State Saturday.

Smith led the Buckeyes in rushing, gaining 87 yards on 14 carries. He was also 14 of 26 passing for 149 yards with an interception to help Ohio State (2-1) rebound from last week's home loss to No. 2 Texas.

San Diego State (0-3) scored on its first play from scrimmage when Brett Swain hauled in a swing pass from Kevin O'Connell and took it 80 yards to give the Aztecs a 6-0 lead.

But two touchdown runs by Smith put Ohio State ahead for good.

Ohio State's defense stifled San Diego State's running attack, limiting the Aztecs to just 13 yards rushing for the game.
