
DENPASAR, Indonesia, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Fourth-seeded Francesca Schiavone and seventh-seeded Na Li were among opening-round winners at Bali's Wismilak International tennis tournament.
Schiavone got past American Jamea Jackson 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, while Li leveled Spaniard Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-3, 6-1 on the hardcourts at the Grand Hyatt Bali.
In other first-round play, Japan's Rika Fujiwara outlasted South African Natalie Grandin 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), Italian Maria Elena Camerin edged out Poland's Marta Domachowska 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 and the Ukraine's Alyona Bondarenko bounced Korean Yoon Jeong Cho 6-4, 6-4.
The top seeds here are American Lindsay Davenport and Swiss Patty Schnyder, who both enjoy opening-round byes. The Wimbledon and Australian Open runner-up Davenport will open up against Fujiwara.
This week's champion will collect $35,000. Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova topped German Marlene Weingartner in last year's Bali finale.
