Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The universities of Georgia and Florida Friday agreed to continue their annual college football skirmish in Jacksonville, Fla.
Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton and the athletic directors of the two schools said the game's new lease will apply to contests from 2007-2010.
The current agreement for the game, nicknamed the "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party," still has two years remaining. It is one of only three college games held annually at a neutral site. The others are Oklahoma-Texas at Dallas and the Army-Navy game, which rotates among several sites.
"Nothing characterizes the tradition of college football more than the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville," said University of Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans. "It is one of the nation's most unique and enduring rivalries and we are excited that Jacksonville will continue to host this very special event that has meant so much not only to both universities, but also college football on a national level."
