MLB: Houston 4, Philadelphia 3

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Lance Berkman had a three-run homer in a four-run first inning Monday and the Houston Astros held on for a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Astros moved one-half game ahead of Philadelphia for the top spot in the NL wild-card race. Houston is also one-half game ahead of Florida, which lost to Washington on Monday.

Morgan Ensberg singled in a run for the Astros, who won for the fifth time in their last seven games. Houston has won 10 straight against the Phillies.

Andy Pettitte (14-9) won for the 11th time in his last 13 decisions. He gave up three hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out five.

The Phillies have lost six of their last nine games. Brett Myers (12-7) was the losing pitcher after allowing four runs in seven innings.
