AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Vince Young
threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score Saturday night as second-ranked Texas walloped Louisiana-Lafayette, 60-3.
The junior quarterback completed 13-of-17 passes for 173 yards and one interception and ran for 49 yards before being taken out midway through the fourth quarter.
"He has that play-making ability," said Ragin' Cajuns Coach Rickey Bustle of Young. "We looked at film of him all summer, and a lot of great teams couldn't tackle him."
Young passed Bobby Layne for seventh place on the Longhorns' passing list. Freshman Jamaal Charles rushed for 135 yards and a one touchdown on 14 carries and David Thomas had two touchdown passes.
Place-kicker Richmond McGee missed one extra point and had two blocked.
Derrick Smith had six receptions for 78 yards to lead UL-Lafayette (0-1) and quarterback Jerry Babb was held to 109 yards on 9-of-18 passing.
