PITTSBURGH, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Brady Quinn passed for 227 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night as Notre Dame surprised No. 25 Pittsburgh, 42-21.

Darius Walker added 100 yards rushing on 20 carries and one touchdown for the Irish and also had three receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown as the Irish, in the first game for new coach Charlie Weis, avenged a 41-38 loss to the Panthers in 2004.

Tyler Palko threw for 220 yards and one touchdown and Greg Lee had four receptions for 63 yards and one score for Pittsburgh (0-1), which had won its last eight season openers. It was the debut of new Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt.
