INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- NFL defensive tackle Corey Simon Thursday agreed in principle to a contract with the Indianapolis Colts.
Terms were not disclosed when Colts president Bill Polian made the announcement.
The bruising tackle spent five years with the Philadelphia Eagles, who Sunday withdrew the franchise tag from their former first-round draft pick out of Florida State. When that happened, Simon became an unrestricted free agent.
Simon will help bolster a Colts defensive line that had 45 sacks last season -- third best in the National Football League.
Last season, Simon, 28, registered 32 tackles and 5½ sacks in 16 games. In five seasons, he has 211 tackles and 32 sacks. Simon set an Eagles rookie record with 9½ sacks during the 2000 season.
