Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- New York Yankees starting pitcher Mike Mussina will miss his next start because of mild inflammation in his right elbow.
The veteran right-hander is 12-8 with a 4.34 ERA in 28 starts this season.
Manager Joe Torre and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre said the injury was "nothing dangerous."
"This has been messing with me on and off for a good part of the summer," Mussina said on the Yankees' Web site. "It hasn't bothered me to the point where I can't pitch, but those guys feel that maybe the last couple of games, it's been bugging me more than I'm letting on."
Mussina, 36, is not expected to throw for several days. Aaron Small most likely will take his spot in the rotation Saturday at Oakland.
Mussina's return to the rotation likely will be either Sept. 8 against Tampa Bay or the following day against Boston.
