MLB: Philadelphia 8, N.Y. Mets 2

NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Chase Utley hit two home runs and had three RBI Wednesday night as Philadelphia beat the New York Mets, 8-2.

Ryan Howard and Mike Lieberthal also homered and Bobby Abreu went 2-for-3 for the Phillies, who regained sole possession of the lead in the National League wild-card race.

Winner Brett Myers rose to 12-6. He yielded two runs and six hits over seven innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Ramon Castro, who had two hits, homered and Cliff Floyd had one RBI for the Mets, who have dropped three of four.

Losing pitcher Pedro Martinez dropped to 13-6. In seven innings, he surrendered five runs and eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Mets reliever Heath Bell was tagged for three runs in the ninth inning.
