Bears waive quarterback Chad Hutchinson

LAKE FOREST, Ill., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The Chicago Bears waived quarterback Chad Hutchinson on Tuesday.

Hutchinson was named the Bears starting quarterback after No. 1 QB Rex Grossman broke his ankle in a pre-season game against St. Louis on Aug. 12.

Grossman is expected to miss the next three-to-four months with the injury.

But Hutchinson played poorly in two exhibition starts with 211 yards passing, no touchdowns and four interceptions for a 23.1 QB rating.

Rookie quarterback Kyle Orton was named the team's starter on Monday. Veteran Jeff Blake will be the backup and Kurt Kittner is third on the depth chart.

Hutchinson, 28, was signed by Chicago in September of last season and started five games. He threw for 903 yards, four TDs and three interceptions in those games. He spent his other two NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
