WNBA: Houston 80, Phoenix 72

PHOENIX, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Tina Thompson led the way Thursday night with 18 points as Houston beat Phoenix, 80-72, qualifying for a Western Conference playoff berth.

WNBA leading scorer Sheryl Swoopes added 15 points and 13 rebounds and Michelle Snow had 17 points and 11 boards as the four-time league champion Rockets improved to 18-15 overall. Houston is only 4-6 in its last 10 contests.

Diana Taurasi had a team-high 19 points for the Mercury, who dropped to 16-17 with their second consecutive setback.
