Davenport, Mauresmo again win at New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Lindsay Davenport and Amelie Mauresmo each won their semi-final matches Friday at the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament at New Haven, Conn.

Davenport, the top seed, won easily over Anna Chakvetadze, 6-3, 6-3. Mauresmo, the second seed, had a tougher time but beat Anabel Medina Garrigues, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

With the win, Davenport will regain the No. 1 ranking in the world when the new standings come out on Monday. This week, she was supplanted at the top of the world rankings by Maria Sharapova.

Davenport is a four-time runner-up in this event. In the title match on Saturday, she will be after her 48th career singles title and third of 2005.

Davenport will be the No. 2 seed next week at the U.S. Open.
