Cubs put Aramis Ramirez on the DL

CHICAGO, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs Friday placed third baseman Aramis Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left quadriceps muscle.

He suffered the injury Wednesday against Atlanta while running out a ground ball.

"We'll see how he is at the end of the 15 days," said Manager Dusty Baker on the Cubs' Web site.

The Cubs used Nomar Garciaparra at third base Friday against Florida.

Despite the Cubs' team woes, Ramirez is having a very good season offensively, batting .302 with 31 home runs and 92 RBI.

Chicago has recalled shortstop Ronny Cedeno from Triple-A Iowa. In 65 games with Iowa, Cedeno was batting .355 with eight homers, 14 doubles and 36 RBI. This will be Cedeno's third stint with the Cubs.
