Robredo advances to 3rd round in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Spaniard Tommy Robredo was victorious in his second-round match Tuesday at the $675,000 Pilot Pen Tennis tournament.

Robredo, who earned a bye in the opening round, made his way into the third round by beating American Scoville Jenkins, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

In other second-round play, Thai Paradorn Srichaphan needed a pair of tiebreaks to defeat Frenchman Cyril Saulnier 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5), Feliciano Lopez of Spain beat Italian Davide Sanguinetti, 6-4, 6-3, Spain's Fernando Verdasco defeated Swede Robin Soderling, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4) and Romania's Victor Hanescu topped Czech Ivo Minar, 6-3, 6-2.
