OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Emil Brown singled in the winning run in the 12th inning Sunday as Kansas City eased past the Oakland Athletics, 5-4.
It was the Royals' second straight win following a club-record 19-game losing streak. Denny Hocking had three hits and scored two runs and Brown and Matt Stairs each had two RBI for the Royals.

Kansas City improved to 3-6 in extra-inning games, and the Athletics suffered their first extra-inning loss at home this season.
Winning pitcher Jimmy Gobble (1-0) retired Oakland in order in the bottom of the 12th.
Loser Kiko Calero fell to 2-1.
Eric Chavez had three hits and Jay Payton had two RBI for Oakland. Athletics starter Joe Blanton hurled seven scoreless innings.
