Pollack signs Bengals' contract

CINCINNATI, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- The Cincinnati Bengals Wednesday signed first-round draft pick David Pollack to a five-year contract.

"Now I get to do what I like to do -- play football," Pollack said on the Bengals' Web site. Pollack was the 17th overall pick in the 2005 draft.

The 6-foot-2 inch, 255-pounder played defensive end in college and was a three-time First-Team All-American at Georgia. He won the Lombardi Award as the nation's outstanding lineman, captured the Bednarik Award as the nation's most outstanding defensive player, the Hendricks Award as the nation's top defensive end and the Lott Trophy as the nation's defensive impact player of the year in 2004.

"We're excited to have this deal concluded," said Cincinnati Coach Marvin Lewis. "We're excited to get started with David, for his and our future."

He set a school record with 36 career sacks, recorded 283 tackles, 58½ tackles, four interceptions, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
