The White Sox were ahead 5-2 when the game was called in the top of the fourth inning. Thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and the forecast of steady rain Sunday night forced the postponement.

The Red Sox, who had won six in a row and 13 straight at home, saw their lead in the American League East drop to 4 1/2 games, as the New York Yankees beat Texas, 10-3.

The White Sox, who lead the American League Central Division by 12 1/2 games over Cleveland, start a six-game homestand on Monday against Minnesota.

The game was delayed by 48 minutes after the top of the first, but play was resumed. The game was later called off.

All statistics from Sunday's game will be wiped out.
