LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Clippers Friday acquired veteran point guard Sam Cassell from Minnesota.

The Timberwolves also parted with a lottery-protected 2006 first-round draft pick. The Clippers also dealt guards Marko Jaric and Lionel Chalmers to Minnesota.

Cassell averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists and 2.7 rebounds per contest for the Timberwolves last season.

"We're excited to bring in a veteran player like Sam who brings nine years of playoff experience and two championships," said Clippers vice president of basketball operations Elgin Baylor.

Cassell has averaged 16.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per contest in his 12-year career, which also has included stops in Houston, Phoenix, Dallas, New Jersey, Milwaukee and Minnesota.

Jaric averaged 9.9 points, 6.1 assists and 3.2 boards per game last year. Chalmers averaged 3.1 points per game last season.
