WATKINS GLEN, N.Y., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Kurt Busch indicated Friday that he will remain with Roush Racing for the 2006 season.
He had expressed a desire to be released from the final year of his contract to join Penske Racing in 2007. He asked to be given an early release to make the move next year, but had that request declined.
"I couldn't have been more surprised," Jack Roush admitted Friday on NASCAR.com when talking about Busch's request.
"You've got a contract with me and you've made commitments to me and I've made commitments to other people I would expect you to keep your contract to me," he said he told Busch in a meeting on Tuesday.
Busch, the 2004 Nextel Cup champion, currently is fifth in this year's championship points standings with two wins and 11 top-10s.
