Busch, the 2004 Nextel Cup champion, is fifth in the points race with two wins and 11 top 10 finishes.

Roush drivers have won the last two Nextel Cup Series championships -- Matt Kenseth in 2003 and Busch last year -- and all five of its drivers are in the top 15.

Four of its five drivers are in the field for the "Chase for the Nextel Cup," Busch, Greg Biffle, Mark Martin and Carl Edwards.

Currently, there are top openings at Penske Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing and Dale Earnhardt Inc. NASCAR.com reported Busch is headed for Penske and that no decision on the request will be made for an indefinite period.
