NEW YORK, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Boston Red Sox left-fielder Manny Ramirez Monday was named the American League Player of the Week.
It was the third weekly award this season for the nine-time All-Star and 14th of his career.
Ramirez was slightly injured in a collision with teammate Edgar Renteria on Thursday.
Ramirez batted .533 last week with three homers and a league-leading 10 RBI in five games. He also recorded a .563 on-base percentage and a 1.200 slugging percentage with 18 total bases.
"There's no way we could survive without Manny for two months of a playoff run," said center-fielder Johnny Damon about Ramirez being on the trading block prior to baseball's trading deadline at the end of July.
Also considered were Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford, Vladimir Guerrero of the L.A. Angels of Anaheim, Hank Blalock of Texas, Huston Street of Oakland and Dustin Hermanson of the White Sox.
