Purtzer wins 3M Championship

BLAINE, Minn., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Tom Purtzer shot a 3-under 69 Sunday to win the 3M Championship by one stroke over Lonnie Nielsen and Craig Stadler.

Purtzer finished his third Champions Tour win at 15-under-par 201. He led after every round.

Purtzer led entering the final 18 holes in each of the last two years, but was unable to hold that lead either time.

Both Nielsen and Stadler carded rounds of 5-under 67 to share second place at 14-under-par 202. Graham Marsh ended at 13-under 203 after a closing 65.

Tom Kite, the 2004 champion, shared fifth with Mark McNulty and Gil Morgan at 11-under-par 205.

Bruce Lietzke, the 2001 champion, finished at 10-under-par 206 and shared eighth place with Morris Hatalsky, Bruce Summerhays and D.A. Weibring.

Dana Quigley and Andy Bean were one stroke further back at 9-under 207.
