Purtzer leads 3M Championship

BLAINE, Minn., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Tom Purtzer fired a 3-under 69 Saturday to raise his lead to three strokes through two rounds of the 3M Championship.

He has gone through 36 holes at 12-under-par 132.

Lonnie Nielsen was the only other player to reach double figures under par before a bogey at No. 18. He shot a 4-under 68 and is at 9-under 135, sharing second place with Craig Stadler (67), David Eger (68), Bruce Lietzke (71) and Hajime Meshiai (66).

Defending champion Tom Kite is at 8-under 136. Kite (69), is in tied for seventh with Jim Ahern, Morris Hatalsky, D.A. Weibring and Gil Morgan.

Andy Bean and Brad Bryant are one stroke further back at seven-under 137.
