BOSTON, Manitoba, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Boston slugger Manny Ramirez left Wednesday night's game against Kansas City with a bloody nose following a collision with shortstop Edgar Renteria.
Ramirez, who hit a three-run homer in the first inning, was able to catch a short fly ball by Ruben Gotay to end the second inning. He and Renteria collided and both were down on the field for a few minutes.
Ramirez was treated by medical personnel on the field and walked off under his own power with a tissue in his right nostril. He was replaced by Gabe Kapler to start the third inning.
Ramirez leads the American League with 30 home runs. He had a contusion to the right side of his chest and is considered day-to-day. Ramirez has 100 RBI. It's his eighth straight 30-homer, 100-RBI season.
The Elias Sports Bureau says only six other players in baseball history have registered at least eight straight seasons with similar numbers.
