MLB: Pittsburgh 9, San Diego 8

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Brad Eldred knocked in four runs Wednesday night as Pittsburgh slipped past the San Diego Padres, 9-8.

His run-scoring double in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Pirates just their second win in the last eight games. Ryan Doumit also had two RBI and Jason Bay, who homered, scored three runs. In relief, winner Jose Mesa improved to 2-6 by hurling a scoreless ninth.

Loser Akinori Otsuka sank to 1-4.

Eric Young, Miguel Olivo, and Khalil Greene all homered for the Padres, who have dropped 13 of their last 15.
