MLB: Oakland 2, Minnesota 1

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Scott Hatteberg drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning Monday as the Oakland Athletics posted a 2-1 victory over over the Minnesota Twins.

Joe Blanton (6-9) allowed just two hits, struck out four and walked two in seven innings to earn the first road victory of his career.

Eric Chavez also drove in a run for the Athletics, who have won five straight and 12 of their last 13 games. Oakland is 15-3 since the All-Star break. The A's are now just one game behind the LA Angels of Anaheim for first place in the AL West.

Justin Morneau produced the Twins only run with a homer. Minnesota has lost five in a row and nine of its last 11 games.

With the game tied 1-1, Dan Johnson led off the top of the seventh with a double off Twins starter Johan Santana (10-6). Hatteberg singled an out later.
