The 6-foot-2-inch, 223-pounder out of California was the 24th overall pick in the draft and was the first quarterback chosen in the first round by Green Bay since 1981 when it took Rich Campbell, who also played for California.

Rodgers played two seasons at Cal after transferring from Butte College. In 25 games, he threw for 5,469 yards and 43 touchdowns and was 17-5 as a starter for the Golden Bears.

In his lone junior college season at Butte in 2002, Rodgers guided the school to a 10-1 record and a No. 2 JUCO national ranking.
