MLB: Houston 5, N.Y. Mets 2 (fri)

HOUSTON, July 29 (UPI) -- Craig Biggio, Lance Berkman and Morgan Ensberg each homered Friday night as Houston beat the New York Mets, 5-2.

The Astros now have won 12 of 13 and, coupled with Washington's 4-3 loss to Florida, Houston has a one-game lead for National League wild card spot.

Winner Wandy Rodriguez improved to 6-4. He gave up two runs and four hits in six innings with two walks and three strikeouts. Brad Lidge worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 25th save.

Mike Piazza had one hit and one RBI for the Mets, who fell 3 1/2 games behind the Astros for the wild card lead.

Loser Kris Benson dropped to 7-4. He surrendered five runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings with three walks and six strikeouts.
