July 28, 2005 at 6:32 AM

BALTIMORE, July 28 (UPI) -- Gary Matthews Jr. hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning to power Texas to an 11-8 win over Baltimore Wednesday night.

Sammy Sosa belted his 587th career home run with a solo shot off Chris Young in the first, moving him past former Oriole Frank Robinson for fifth on the all-time homer list.

Matthews, who also threw out the potential winning run in the 10th, atoned for an error in the ninth with his decisive homer against his former team. It was his second homer of the game as he drove in four runs.

Rod Barajas and Mark Teixeira also homered for the Rangers, who won for only the second time in eight games.

Miguel Tejada hit a three-run homer for the Orioles, while Javy Lopez forced extra innings with a two-run shot but Baltimore lost for the seventh time in eight games.
