
SAN FRANCISCO, July 20 (UPI) -- Jeff Francoeur hit a two-run homer Wednesday to help the Atlanta Braves beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-1.
In eight innings, winning pitcher John Smoltz (11-5) yielded one run on six hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.
Chris Reitsma recorded his 10th save.
Francoeur went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Smoltz, who beat San Francisco for the first time since April 26, 1996, added an RBI double, is 26th on the all-time strikeout list with 2,508, passing Christy Mathewson.
The Braves took two of three.
Pedro Feliz homered for the Giants, who lost for the third time in five games.
Losing pitcher Noah Lowry dropped to 6-10. In seven innings, Lowry gave up four runs and six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
The Braves' Rafael Furcal went 0-for-4 and saw his 11-game hit streak end.
