Milan soccer star to play in Germany

STUTTGART, Germany, July 18 (UPI) -- German soccer club VFB Stuttgart has bought forward Jon Dahl Tomasson of AC Milan, the German daily newspaper Stuttgarter Zeitung reported Monday.

The Danish national team player has cost Stuttgart an estimated $6.3 million, the newspaper said.

Tomasson, who has played three years for European top club AC Milan, is the most prominent signing yet of the Bundesliga season 2005/2006, which starts in August.

VFB Stuttgart has made nearly $27 million selling its two most celebrated talents, German striker Kevin Kuranyi (FC Schalke 04) and midfield motor Alexander Hleb, who joined Premier League team Arsenal London.

The club plans to buy another quality midfielder to replace Hleb, the newspaper said.

The new signing comes just a few weeks after the club presented its fans with a new coach -- former Italian national team manager Giovanni Trapattoni.
