MLB: Detroit 4, Kansas City 1

DETROIT, July 15 (UPI) -- Ivan Rodriguez hit a two-run home run and Dmitri Young added a solo shot Friday night as Detroit beat Kansas City, 4-1.

Rodriguez, Craig Monroe and Rondell White each had two hits for the Tigers.

Monroe went 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to nine games. He has hit safely in 27 of his last 30 games.

Joe McEwing homered for the Royals.

Winning pitcher Nate Robertson improved to 4-7. He gave up one run and five hits in five innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

In three innings of relief, Detroit's Fernando Rodney struck out seven batters. Kyle Farnsworth earned his second save.

Loser Jose Lima dropped to 2-8. He gave up nine hits and four runs in six innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
