Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

LEBANON, Ohio, July 12 (UPI) -- Michelle Wie, a 15-year-old golf phenom, made the cut Tuesday at the men's Amateur Public Links in Ohio with an 8-over par through two rounds.
Wie shot a 2-over 72 in the final round of stroke play Tuesday to advance to match play. Wie, who is playing the event hoping for a win and an invitation to The Masters, is from Honolulu.
She is the first female to qualify for a men's U.S. Golf Association championship. Wie opened stroke play Monday with a six-over 76.
The top 64 scorers begin match play Wednesday.
