
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 11 (UPI) -- Five Nextel Cup Series crew chiefs were fined by NASCAR for violations in connection with the Pepsi 400 July 2 at Daytona International Speedway.
Joel Shear, crew chief for Johnny Sauter and Dan Kolanda, crew chief for Morgan Shepherd, were each fined $10,000 Monday for unapproved upper rear coil spring mounts.
Shear was fined $5,000 more for violating a NASCAR probation. He was handed a four-race suspension for an unapproved carburetor and is on probation until Dec. 31.
Harold Holly, crew chief for Bobby Hamilton Jr., was fined $10,000. An inspection following qualification for the race showed an unapproved lubrication oil reservoir tank cover.
Glenn Darrow, crew chief for Kevin Lepage, was fined $2,500 for using an unapproved fuel cell foam following opening-day inspection.
Tony Eury Jr., crew chief for Michael Waltrip, was fined $500 for not attending the pre-race driver's meeting.
