Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHICAGO, July 9 (UPI) -- Barry Zito allowed only two hits in seven innings Saturday as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Chicago White Sox 10-1 Saturday.
Zito (6-8) won his third straight start.
Kiko Calero held the White Sox hitless in the eighth, and Keiichi Yabu gave up a two-out double to Timo Perez before closing out the ninth -- to finish off a three-hitter for the A's staff.
Mark Kotsay, who signed a three-year extension before the game, hit a three-run homer in the seventh to give Oakland a 5-1 lead. Eric Chavez added a two-run homer.
The Athletics have won 12 of their last 15 games.
Mark Buehrle fell to 10-3 for the White Sox, giving up five runs on six hits over seven innings.
