Diamondbacks put Shawn Estes on the DL

PHOENIX, July 8 (UPI) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed left-hander Shawn Estes on the 15-day disabled list because of a stress reaction in his left foot.

The move is retroactive to July 6.

Estes had been bothered by the injury and he said it became more painful after he hit a triple during Tuesday night's loss to St. Louis.

He could miss up to four weeks while recovering from the injury.

Estes is 6-7 with a 4.56 ERA in 17 starts and is the second Arizona pitcher to land on the DL, joining right-hander Russ Ortiz, who has a strained rib cage.

Arizona has recalled right-handed reliever Brandon Medders from Triple-A Tucson.
