Kaanan wins IndyCar race at Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Kan., July 3 (UPI) -- Tony Kanaan won the Argent Mortgage Indy 300 at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.

IndyCar points leader and runner-up Dan Wheldon finished just 0.0120 seconds behind the winner.

It was the first victory of the season for Kanaan and the fifth of his IndyCar career. Vitor Meira, Dario Franchitti and Tomas Scheckter completed the top-five.

Pole-winner Danica Patrick finished ninth.

Kanaan closed to within 76 points of Wheldon in the points standings.

The next race in the IndyCar Series is July 16 at the Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway.
