WIMBLEDON, England, July 1 (UPI) -- Lindsay Davenport defeated Amelie Mauresmo Friday in a rain-suspended match to set up an all-American Wimbledon women's final.

Top-seeded Davenport dropped the first game against Mauresmo when play resumed, but rebounded for a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 triumph on Court 1.

Davenport was leading 5-3 in the final set Thursday when play was ended by rain. The world's No. 1 player will meet Venus Williams in Saturday's Wimbledon final -- their 27th career meeting.

Davenport has a 14-12 record against Williams and has won their last four encounters.

The 29-year-old Davenport has won her last six meetings with Mauresmo and improved her career mark against the Frenchwoman to 9-3.

Davenport was Wimbledon champion in 1999 and was runner-up to Williams in 2000. She was this year's Australian Open runner-up to Venus' younger sister Serena Williams and hasn't won a Grand Slam event since the 2000 Aussie Open.

The 25-year-old Mauresmo has never won a major tennis championship.

Fourteenth-seeded Williams ousted defending champion Maria Sharapova in straight sets to reach the finals.
