NEW YORK, July 1 (UPI) -- Pitcher Kenny Rogers of the Texas Rangers was suspended by Major League Baseball Friday for 20 games for an incident with a cameraman this week.

Rogers also was slapped with an undisclosed fine.

On Tuesday, he told a cameraman and a reporter near the Rangers' clubhouse to back off. One night later, he went into a tirade in a similar situation, pushed Fox Sports Net Southwest photographer David Mammeli and shoved Larry Rodriguez, a photographer for Dallas-Fort Worth TV station KDFW -- before throwing Rodriguez' camera to the ground and kicking it.

"Mr. Rogers' behavior was unprofessional, unwarranted and completely unacceptable," said Commissioner Bud Selig. "Major League Baseball is a social institution and all of us in the game have an important responsibility to act with good reason and judgment. Media coverage is important to the game and we in baseball are obligated to treat members of the media with respect and civility."
