Suns' Richardson heads to Knicks

PHOENIX, June 23 (UPI) -- The Phoenix Suns Thursday sent veteran swingman Quentin Richardson to the New York Knicks in return for power forward Kurt Thomas and a first-round draft pick.

Richardson, selected out of DePaul 18th overall in the first-round of the 2000 draft, spent one season with the Suns after signing a six-year, $45 million contract. He was informed of the trade by his agent and Phoenix President and GM Bryan Colangelo, the Arizona Republic said.

"It definitely is a shock but I also understand it's a business decision," said Richardson at a photo shoot in New York.

Richardson spent his first four seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he was more of an inside player.

He averaged 14.9 points and grabbed 6.1 rebounds per game with the Suns, hitting a club-record 226 three-pointers last season.

Thomas, a 10-year veteran, averaged 11.5 points and 10.4 rebounds in 80 games with New York.
