Pellegrino sent packing in Liverpool

LIVERPOOL, England, June 17 (UPI) -- Defender Mauricio Pellegrino is out of work after being released by the Liverpool soccer club Friday.

The 33-year-old played his final game for the Reds against Aston Villa on the last day of the Premiership season. Pellegrino, who did not play in the club's Champions League victory over AC Milan, participated in 12 matches for Liverpool.

Pellegrino came to Rafael Benitez' club in January 2005 on a short-term contract from Valencia. However, the Argentine's reunion with his former head coach did turn out as both parties had hoped.
