Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
NEW YORK, June 15 (UPI) -- Indianapolis Colts safety Mike Doss was suspended for two games by the National Football League Wednesday for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy.
He was sentenced to community service last week after pleading no contest to misdemeanor gun charges in Akron, Ohio.
The 5-10, 207-pound Doss, a second-round pick by the Colts in the 2003 draft out of Ohio State, has been their starting strong safety the past two seasons. He was arrested for firing a gun into the air outside a restaurant in May and will miss the first two regular-season games of the 2005 campaign.
In a statement on the team's Web site, Colts President Bill Polian, who knew the punishment was coming from Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, said: "We hope this swift, sure action by the Commissioner sends a signal to all concerned: players and fans alike; that actions such as those engaged in by Mike Doss will not be tolerated in the NFL or with the Colts."
