Juande Ramos to lead Sevilla

MADRID, June 13 (UPI) -- Spanish soccer club Sevilla appointed Juande Ramos as the team's head coach Monday, replacing the recently departed Joaquin Caparros.

Caparros, who left for Deportivo La Coruna, led Sevilla to a sixth-place finish in La Liga this past season, earning the club a spot in the UEFA Cup.

The 51-year-old Ramos will take over on a one-year deal. The veteran coach has spent time with Real Betis, Malaga, Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona B.

In other Spanish league news, Valencia signed a 3-year deal with former Levante goalkeeper Juan Luis Mora.

The 32-year-old Mora has also played for Real Oviedo, Espanyol and Xerez. He spent the past two seasons as Levante's starting goalkeeper.

As well, Real Zaragoza signed goalkeeper Cesar Sanchez from Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old Sanchez spent five years at Real Madrid, backing up Iker Casillas.

Sanchez is expected to get a chance to start at Zaragoza after the retirement of Cesar Lainez.
