Button wins pole for Canadian Grand Prix

MONTREAL, June 11 (UPI) -- Jenson Button won the pole Saturday for Sundays Canadian Grand Prix by racing around the 2.709-mile road course in one minute, 15.217 seconds.

The pole victory was Button's first of the season and second of his career. His inaugural pole came at the San Marino Grand Prix in 2004 when he finished second to Michael Schumacher.

On the front with Button will be Schumacher, who posted a second-best time of 1:15.475.

Series points leader Fernando Alonso (1:15.561) and Renault teammate Giancarlo Fisichella (1:15.577) will start in row two.
